Your Business Deserves To Thrive

Do You Need LegalZoom or a Law Firm?

On Behalf of | Oct 20, 2017 | Business Management

Do you need the services of a law firm, or have you ever considered using LegalZoom, the popular internet software for filling out online forms and documents? Or perhaps one of its competitors? Here are a few things to consider. LegalZoom documents state that you should use that service in conjunction with a lawyer because you should have your own counsel.

Why do they say this? Because their forms are complex. In our law firm’s experience, we have seen many people start to use LegalZoom forms and either fill them out incorrectly or get confused. In extreme cases, they used the wrong form for the situation which can cause major problems later.

Part of it depends on your level of sophistication. If you are a sophisticated attorney and have spent a lot of time doing legal matters, you may be fine using LegalZoom. Perhaps you are a business person who has done hundreds of transactions, has worked side by side with your lawyer, and are very familiar with legal terms. Then LegalZoom might be right for you.

There are reasons why forms may be filled out one way versus another. If your training is less, or if you are having difficulty understanding the documents, it might be wise to consult an attorney.  If you do not understand the underlying laws, cases, and statutes, or you do not understand what the language means in the LegalZoom form, it might be a good idea to consult and retain a lawyer who can help you understand correctly what you are committing to do. Having the right counsel can make sure that your company is going to the next level.

Have you had experience using LegalZoom rather than an attorney? What have been the results? Would you use it again? Join us in the comments below.
